In Ayurveda, shoulder arthritis can be correlated with Sandhigata Vatha and Apabahuka. Degenerative changes are associated with Vatha Dosha, inflammatory changes with Pitha Dosha, and swelling with Kapha Dosha.

The presence of Ama further aggravates pain, stiffness, and restricted movement in the shoulder joint.
