Rotator cuff tendinitis is the inflammation of one or more tendons of the rotator cuff muscles, which are responsible for stabilizing and rotating the shoulder joint.

This condition commonly occurs due to repetitive stress and overuse of the shoulder, especially during overhead arm movements such as throwing, lifting, or sports activities.

Common Symptoms

  • Dull ache in the shoulder region
  • Pain while lifting or rotating the arm
  • Pain during overhead movements
  • Night pain, especially while lying on the affected shoulder
  • Pain over the deltoid muscle region

Rotator Cuff Tendinitis in Ayurveda

In Ayurveda, rotator cuff tendinitis can be understood as Snayugata Vatha (Vatha vitiation affecting tendons) or as a condition related to Apabahuka.

Repetitive strain, improper posture, and overuse aggravate Vatha Dosha, leading to pain, stiffness, inflammation, and restricted movement of the shoulder joint.
