Shoulder Impingement Syndrome Treatment in Ayurveda
Ayurvedic management for shoulder pain caused by compression of rotator cuff tendons, focusing on pain relief, inflammation control, and restoring shoulder movement.
What is Impingement Syndrome?
Shoulder impingement syndrome occurs when the rotator cuff tendons become compressed between the head of the humerus and the acromion bone during shoulder movements.
This compression leads to irritation, inflammation, and pain, especially during overhead arm movements. It is commonly seen in individuals involved in repetitive overhead activities such as sports like volleyball or occupations requiring frequent arm elevation.
Common Symptoms
- Pain while lifting the arm or reaching overhead
- Weakness in the shoulder
- Night pain, especially while lying on the affected side
- Radiating pain to the upper arm
- Difficulty performing daily activities involving shoulder movement
Impingement Syndrome in Ayurveda
In Ayurveda, impingement syndrome can be correlated with Apabahuka or Snayugata Vatha, where aggravated Vatha Dosha affects the tendons and muscles of the shoulder.
Repetitive strain, improper posture, and overuse lead to vitiation of Vatha, sometimes associated with Pitha, resulting in pain, inflammation, stiffness, and restricted movement.
