Rheumatic Fever Joint Pain Treatment in Ayurveda
Ayurvedic supportive care for joint inflammation caused by rheumatic fever, focusing on pain relief, swelling reduction, and joint recovery.
What is Rheumatic Fever?
Rheumatic fever is an inflammatory condition that occurs as a complication following an untreated or poorly treated streptococcal throat infection. It most commonly affects children between the ages of 5 and 15 years.
The disease can involve multiple organs, including joints, heart, skin, and nervous system. Joint involvement is one of the earliest and most prominent features.
Joint Involvement in Rheumatic Fever
Joint symptoms are typically presented as polyarthritis, meaning inflammation of multiple joints that is shifting in nature. The pain may move from one joint to another over a short period.
When the knee joint is involved, it causes severe pain, swelling, warmth, and restricted movement. These symptoms can be intense but are usually temporary if treated properly.
Rheumatic Fever in Ayurveda
In Ayurveda, rheumatic fever–related joint pain can be understood as a condition involving Ama along with vitiation of Vatha and Pitha Doshas. The presence of Ama leads to inflammation, swelling, pain, and tenderness in the joints.
Although the root cause is infectious and requires modern medical management, Ayurvedic therapies play a supportive role in managing joint inflammation and pain.
