Meniscal & Ligament Tear Treatment in Ayurveda
Ayurvedic supportive care for knee injuries involving meniscus and ligaments, focusing on pain relief, inflammation control, and joint recovery.
What is a Meniscal or Ligament Tear?
The knee joint contains two shock-absorbing cartilages known as the Medial Meniscus and Lateral Meniscus, along with four major ligaments — the Anterior and Posterior Cruciate Ligaments (ACL & PCL) and the Medial and Lateral Collateral Ligaments (MCL & LCL).
Trauma, sudden twisting movements, falls, or sports injuries can cause sprain, partial tear, or complete tear of these structures, leading to instability and pain in the knee joint.
Common Symptoms
Meniscal and ligament injuries are commonly presented as:
- Locking or catching sensation in the knee
- Clicking sounds during movement
- Pain and swelling around the knee joint
- Reduced range of motion
- Feeling of instability or giving way of the knee
Meniscal & Ligament Tear in Ayurveda
In Ayurveda, knee injuries can be classified under Abhigathaja Vyadhi (trauma-induced disorders) or Sandhigata Vatha when Vatha Dosha is aggravated.
Injury leads to vitiation of Vatha, sometimes associated with Pitha, causing pain, swelling, stiffness, and restricted movement. Proper management is essential to prevent chronic instability and degeneration.
