Calcaneal Spur Treatment in Ayurveda

Ayurvedic management for heel pain caused by calcaneal spur, focusing on inflammation reduction, pain relief, and restoring normal foot function.

Calcaneal Spur Treatment

Overview

Calcaneal spur is a bony outgrowth that develops on the underside of the heel bone (calcaneus), usually due to long-standing strain and inflammation of the plantar fascia. It is commonly associated with persistent heel pain, especially while taking the first steps in the morning or after prolonged rest.

The pain may reduce after a few steps initially, but if untreated, it can become continuous and worsen with prolonged standing, walking, or weight-bearing activities.

Calcaneal Spur in Ayurveda

In Ayurveda, calcaneal spur can be correlated with Vatha Kopa affecting the Gulfa (ankle/heel region), often described under conditions like Vathakandaka.

Excessive strain, improper footwear, long-term standing, and accumulation of Ama lead to vitiation of Vatha Dosha, resulting in pain, stiffness, and structural changes in the heel region.
