Sacroiliitis Ayurveda Treatment

What is Sacroiliitis?

Sacroiliitis is the inflammation of one or both sacroiliac (SI) joints, which connect the sacrum of the spine to the pelvic bones. This condition commonly causes low back pain and stiffness, especially after prolonged inactivity.

Trauma, pregnancy, prolonged sitting, or inflammatory disorders can aggravate the sacroiliac joints and worsen symptoms.

Common Symptoms

  • Low back pain near the pelvis
  • Stiffness after rest or sleeping
  • Tenderness over sacroiliac joints
  • Reduced range of motion
  • Pain aggravated by standing or sitting long

Sacroiliitis in Ayurveda

In Ayurveda, Sacroiliitis can be correlated with Kateegraham or Sandhigatha Vatha.

Vitiated Vatha along with Pitha and Kapha doshas, affecting the Sandhi (joint) of Kati Desha (lower back), leads to inflammation, pain, and stiffness.

  • Podikizhi (warm herbal powder bundle)
  • Ilakizhi (herbal leaves bundle)
  • Kateevasthy (retaining medicated oil over lower back)
  • Kashayavasthy (medicated enema)
  • Mathravasthy (oil enema)

Care During Treatment

  • Avoid prolonged sitting and heavy physical activity
  • Follow anti-inflammatory and Vatha-pacifying diet
  • Maintain correct posture and spinal support
  • Take adequate rest during treatment period

Expected Results & Prognosis

With proper Ayurvedic management, inflammation and pain can be significantly reduced, and joint mobility can improve.

Early-stage cases respond better to treatment. Chronic cases may require repeated treatment sessions and long-term lifestyle modification for sustained relief.
