Eye Disorders Treatment in Ayurveda
Comprehensive Ayurvedic care for eye strain, dry eyes, early vision problems, and diabetic retinopathy through dosha balancing and ocular nourishment.
About Eye Disorders
Eye disorders commonly occur due to prolonged screen use, poor lighting, aging, nutritional deficiencies, or as part of other systemic illnesses. Early identification and care help prevent long-term vision complications.
Common Eye Conditions
Eye Strain
Eye strain results from excessive screen time or focusing for long periods. It causes headache, blurred vision, and eye fatigue, and improves with rest and visual hygiene.
Dry Eyes
Dry eye disease occurs when tear production is inadequate or tears evaporate too quickly. It leads to burning sensation, redness, irritation, and sensitivity to light.
Early Vision Problems
Early vision issues include blurred vision, difficulty focusing, or eye discomfort.
Diabetic Retinopathy
A complication of long-standing diabetes that damages retinal blood vessels. It may progress silently and can lead to vision loss if blood sugar is not well controlled.
Timely eye examination and corrective measures can prevent progression and protect eye health.
Ayurvedic View of Eye Diseases (Netra Roga)
- In Ayurveda, the eyes are considered the most delicate sense organs and are predominantly governed by Alochaka Pitta, with support from Vata and Kapha.
- Eye diseases arise due to vitiation of these Doshas, especially Pitta, along with impaired Agni, accumulation of Ama, excessive strain on the eyes, improper diet, night-awakening, emotional stress, and systemic disorders like Prameha (diabetes).
- Disturbance in Rakta Dhatu and obstruction of the Netra Srotas further contribute to visual impairment and eye pathology.
Herbal House Ayurveda Treatments for Eye Disorders
The management of eye diseases is based on Pitta Shamana, Rakta Prasadana, and Vata–Kapha balancing where required. Strengthening of Alochaka Pitta and nourishment of ocular tissues is essential.
